I talk to Sekhmet daily. I talk to Her several times a day even. I often ask for Her help, sing Her praises, or desperately entreat Her help for a loved one or friend who needs healing. The thing is, She doesn’t always talk back. She often doesn’t talk back. How do I know She is listening? Is it possible that She may not be?
These are things I ponder when I read of some folk’s interactions with Netjer. I wonder at those who have a best friends kind of relationship with the Divine. What are they doing that I am not? Am I listening hard enough for my Mother? Maybe She doesn’t have an opinion about the things I eat and do on a daily basis. Perhaps the things on TV don’t interest Her. I am not sure.
The thing I do know is that Sekhmet does listen to me. When She has something to say, She says it in Her own way and time. It may not be immediately obvious, but if it is something I need to know, need to see, eventually it will be revealed. And when I am actively listening, at the right time, and in the right space, I will hear that voice in my head that I know is not me.
I’m of the beliefs that the gods are not omnipresent and are, in fact, very busy with godly duties (whatever they might be). We are merely mortal; I doubt Anpu has any interest in the video games I play because they’re mortal entertainment. Sure, He might find a song on the radio amusing, but that has only ever happened once. Oftentimes, I go months without hearing from Him.
Wepwawet is a lot more expressive, but even He doesn’t answer my questions or “talk back” to me often. In my experiences, the gods speak to us when relevant to our growth and to the improvement of our relationships with Them… not when we’re asking Them what they think of a TV show.
But that’s just my two cents.

I would say don’t let other people’s relationships with their Deities affect yours (in the sense that it gets to the point where self doubt pops in). The important thing is that She listens. Maybe you’re doing stuff right instead of not enough.
Not to mention the Gods speak in many ways. Dreams, visions, apparently mundane things which happen and which actually have deeper meaning, etc. And sometimes there’s a riddle in it for you to solve.
I often found Anubis isn’t immensely keen on words when He speaks (to me at least). But He has other ways of communicating. Took me a while to figure it out though lol!
